In late 2023 Australians will be asked to vote in the referendum on a First Nations Voice to
Parliament.
The SMJFL is committed to reconciliation and education, and endeavours to provide all its
participants with a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment. We recognise that Australian Football can connect people and have a positive effect in our community.
Since 2017 we have delivered the Next Generation Academy. In 2022 we launched our Reconciliation Action Plan, including an explicit statement that the SMJFL will promote reconciliation through our sphere of influence. Our 2023 Interleague kit featured a
wonderful Indigenous design.
The SMJFL Board is committed to an inclusive junior sporting competition for all Australians and believe supporting a First Nations Voice to Parliament is another important step towards reconciliation and recognition.
The SMJFL Board recognises and respects the right of members of our community to vote as they see fit. We encourage members of our community to seek the information they require to form their own views before voting in the referendum.
