Liam plays a key part in supporting and developing junior football across multiple areas. His responsibilities within Club Development are predominantly the promotion of key resources, best practice guidance, and engagement. Liam also assists with promoting Child Safety standards and ensuring compliance with best safeguarding policies. You championed Community initiatives such as mental health programs, and maintains a strong focus on Diversity and Inclusion, helping to create a welcoming environment for all participants. Liam oversees PlayHQ account management, and all processes related to Financial Relief and Refunds to ensure accessibility and support for families and clubs. Liam collates and publishes Club Connect, and circulates other key communications between the AFL, the league and its affiliated clubs. Additionally, Liam is the main point of contact for Grant information to help facilitate club growth and development, and maintained close collaboration with AFL Victoria to align local operations with broader strategic goals.

 

Head of Umpiring – Portia Ronsberg (Interim)

The primary role of the Head of Umpiring is to over see the operations of the SMJFL Umpire Academy with a focus on recruitment, retention and development of umpires that can service the game of Australian Football within the SMJFL. They will also play a key role within discipline being the point of contact for umpires to call on match day.

This role involves overseeing the development and delivery of umpire education through the Umpire Academy, with a strong focus on recruitment, and retention strategies. It includes managing club volunteer umpires, supporting umpire coaches, and facilitating clear pathways for umpire progression. The position also plays a key role in discipline and ensures consistent standards across all umpiring activities.

 

Football Administration Coordinator – Ruby Lewis

As the Football Operations Coordinator, Ruby plays a key role in the planning and administration of the SMJFL football season. Her responsibilities include managing fixturing and grading processes, overseeing player transfers and permits, and handling match day paperwork. She also monitors player conduct through poor ratings and yellow card tracking. Ruby contributes to the success of football events and supports interleague operations, ensuring smooth and professional delivery across all areas of the sport.

Marketing & Communications Coordinator – Rhian Llewellyn

The Marketing & Communications is responsible for producing key publications such as the Annual Report and Footy Record, maintaining and updating the organisation’s website, and managing all social media channels to enhance engagement and visibility. Rhian coordinates event activations to promote SMJFL sponsors/partners at games and community events, oversee the accreditation of official photographers, and organise Media Day to support content creation and media engagement throughout the season.

In my role as Administration Assistant, the major focus of my role is pathways. I am the main point of contact for all pathways programs, including working with the Stk Academy (U12-15) and the organisation of Interleague. Outside of pathways I also assist the football operations department with Office and event administration, PlayHQ transfers/permits and processing elements of match day paperwork.

Umpire Administration Officer  Lachlan Carney & Sarah Donlon

The Umpire Administration Officer will be the main point of contact for all Umpires with onboarding, registration or general Umpiring queries. Their main role is to oversee and coordinate the Field Umpire appointments each week, and oversee the appointments process. They also play a role as an Umpire coach, and assist in recruitment and retention strategies, overseeing the umpire uniforms fulfilment process and conduct general umpiring duties to ensure consistent standards across all umpiring activities.
