Monash University U17.5 Boys Div 1


Ormond JFC defeated by Bentleigh / Highett / Cheltenham

A strong performance from Bentleigh / Highett / Cheltenham who have secured their second win for the season at E.E. Gunn Reserve. Their 26-point victory was thanks to their key goal scorers Archie Grikis (2 goals), Spencer Saarinsen (2 goals) and Max Wigney (2 goals). Although Ormond was behind in points for the first half of the game they persevered and managed to gain a one-point lead by three quarter time. However, Bentleigh / Highett / Cheltenham came to a quick defense and stopped Ormond from scoring for the rest of the game.

 


Murrumbeena JFC defeated by Waverley Park Hawks

The Hawks have soared to their sixth win this season with a spectacular performance against the Lions at Murrumbeena Park. The Hawks, Joshua Leftley scored a stunning four goals, helping them to a 22-point victory. The Lion’s showed resilience which was on full display as they continued to show grit throughout the match. Samuel Zappulla snagged 2 goals on the scoreboard for the Lions. The Hawks now sit third on the ladder.

 


Beaumaris FC defeated by St. Bedes / Mentone Tigers AFC

On Sunday at Banksia Reserve it became the scene of a competitive clash between the Tigers and the Sharks. As the final siren rang, the Tigers were victorious. From the beginning the Tigers held the game in their hands, scoring 22-points in the first quarter, and opposing the Sharks to 2 points. However, by half-time the gap had closed significantly and within 6 point difference. A strong performance from Liam McNamara scoring (3 goals) and Ben Brady (2 goals). The Sharks were right on the heels of the Tigers. The Tigers managed to maintain their lead and pounce to a 3-point victory. The efforts of Hamish Beazley (2 goals) and Joshua O’Brien (2 goals) led the Tigers to an excellent win in a highly competitive match.

 


AJAX JFC defeated St Peters FC

It was a masterclass from AJAX who secured a 57-point victory against St Peters at Princes Park. AJAX dived into yet another game hitting triple digits thanks to their key goals scorers Hugo Mack Krasnostein (4 goals), Nicholas Rothschild (3 goals) and Joshua Slade (3 goals). This strong performance brought AJAX to 67 points at halftime to St Peters opposing 22 points. Although AJAX had the upper hand from the beginning St Peters showed determination and with the help of their key goal scorer Brody Joyce (3 goals) managed to snag a few on the scoreboard to close the goal difference by the final siren. St Peters are preparing to bring their A game against St. Bedes / Mentone in round 9.

 


Monash University U18 Girls Div 1


East Brighton Vampires JFC defeated by South Melbourne Districts JFC

The Swans swam to their first victory of the season against the Vampires at Hurlingham Park. The match was tight from the get-go! It looked to favour the Vampires however, the Swans were up to the challenge reducing the margin to only within 1 point. However, the game switched pace after half time as the Swans showed great agility and determination in their game to persevere. The Swan drew to a good lead with 40-points opposing to the Vampires 28-points. It came down to the last quarter where both teams left everything on the field. The Swans key goal scorers Emma Westerbeek (2 goals) and Zara Schmidt (2 goals) helped the Swans to their 5-point victory.

 

 

 Beaumaris FC defeated Murrumbeena JFC

The Sharks swam to victory against the Lionesses by 77 points. At Beaumaris Secondary College the Sharks used their home ground to their advantage, starting off slowly with 16 points against the Lionesses 3 points in the first quarter. The real show began after the first half as the Sharks increased their margin from 5 points to 52 point lead at three quarter time. The star goal scorer of the game was Gemma Holland with a spectacular 6 goals. The Lionesses showed pride in their game and grit, to fight to the end.

 


Prahran JFC defeated by St Peters FC

The St Peters girls have highlighted once again why they deserve to be second on the ladder as they have secured a 69-point victory against Prahran at Toorak Park. Right from the first bounce St Peters dominated the field with poise and efficiency landing 27 points on the scoreboard by quarter time. By halftime Prahran had snagged a goal on the board however St Peters had leaped to an impressive 46-points. St Peters’ Tess Baxter booted an impressive 6 goals. Prahran are preparing to win when they play Beaumaris in round 9.
