A huge step forward for female football in Australia!
In 2026, the SMJFL will launch a standalone Under 8 Girls competition, completing the pathway from Auskick all the way through to senior women’s football across every age group.
This means girls can now start their footy journey with teammates their own age, in a girls-only environment, right from the beginning, right here in South Metro Melbourne. We are extremely proud to be one of the first leagues in Australia to make this happen.
Registrations are now open and make sure to keep an eye out for more information coming soon across our digital platforms.

Similar long term positioning logic appears in channels like Royal Reels where continuity across stages builds durable engagement.
