IKON ROUND WRAP-UP


 

On Sunday 28th July the South Metro Junior Football League held IKON Round which was hosted by Beaumaris Junior Football Club at Beaumaris Secondary College. IKON Services Australia are committed to supporting women & girls in sport and kindly donated best on ground medals for each girls team playing on the day. It was a chilly day on Sunday however, this didn’t stop the girls from playing some brilliant football.

 

Under 11 Girls Div 3: Beaumaris Sharks 9.20.74 def Port Melbourne Colts 0.1.1


From the opening bounce, Beaumaris set the tone with an explosive start, with several scoring efforts resulting in the home side establishing a 22 point lead at the end of the first quarter. Their forward line was in scintillating form, converting opportunities with precision and showcasing their ability to capitalize on every chance. The second quarter saw Beaumaris extend their lead significantly, scoring 6.5 to bring their total to 45 points, while Port Colts struggled to break through. Despite Port remaining scoreless at halftime, the visitor’s passion and energy was evident, as the 10 manned Colts did not let the deficit phase their desire to win every contest. The third quarter saw Beaumaris continue their relentless attack through Chloe Wadsworth, Scarlett Costa, Ella Knowles, before adding another two goals in the final term to secure an emphatic win on the day.

Under 14 Girls Div 3: Beaumaris Sharks 2.5.17 def Cheltenham Panthers 1.3.9


The Sharks got off to a hot start in what was a tight and thrilling encounter against the Panthers. Despite the scoreline at the end of the first, it was a physical contest, and the Panthers weren’t letting the Sharks get any easy scores. The Sharks went into the second quarter looking to build momentum however, the Panthers were able to keep them scoreless, whilst hitting the scoreboard themselves for the first time with a minor score. The Sharks went into the second half with a narrow 7-point lead and were quick to add another goal to the scoreboard. The Panthers mounted a comeback to kick their first goal of the game, which had the whole team hungry to take the win. The Sharks fought strongly in the final term to only allow the Panthers two minor scores and defended their lead to be eventual 8-point winners at home.

Under 15 Girls Div 1: Beaumaris Sharks 9.15.69 def St Kilda City 2.1.13


Taking an early lead with a score of 1.3 at the end of the first quarter, Beaumaris commenced this fixture strongly through creating several scoring chances. However, St Kilda’s accuracy from a lone chance was enough to maintain a 3-point deficit. The second quarter saw Beaumaris click into gear and create more scoring opportunities, increasing their lead to 18 points. Jovi Labozzetta and Chloe Law were relentless in front of goal, seeing the Sharks convert 3.4, while St Kilda City struggled to keep pace and managed just a single behind. Beaumaris continued to showcase their offensive strength with a solid 5.10 performance in the third term, with Elle Gordon, Felicity Bradley, Grace Philip, and Mathilda Varney, consistently breaking through St Kilda City’s defence. Adding another 29 points in the final term, Beaumaris rounded out a commanding victory at home.

Under 16 Girls Div 3: Beaumaris Sharks 1.2.8 def by East Brighton Vampires 4.5.29


Beginning with a tight and end-to-end first quarter, an early stalemate was broken by the Vampires, edging ahead with a single behind. Showcasing strong defensive efforts, both teams made scoring opportunities scarce until the shackles were unleashed by East Brighton in the second quarter, seeing the visitors pull away scoring 2.3 to take a commanding 16-point lead at halftime. The Sharks displayed resilience in the third quarter, finally breaking through with a goal from Natalie Nomikos and keeping East Brighton to no score in the term, reducing the margin to 8 points heading into the final term. Thanks to goals from Lucy Murphy, Pepper Williams, and Jorja Rao, East Brighton sealed victory with a strong finish, to end the game at 29-8.
