2025 SMJFL Presentation Night

ree

The South Metro Junior Football League (SMJFL) proudly hosted the 2025 Presentation Night at the Kingston Town Hall on Sunday, 5 October, celebrating another fantastic season of junior football. More than 1,100 guests attended across two sessions, as players, coaches, volunteers, club committee members, and families came together to recognise the achievements of the year.

Reflecting on the season, SMJFL CEO Jamie Howden shared that 2025 was another milestone year for the league. “We had 10,366 participants playing in 464 teams across 69 divisions at our 26 Member Clubs. The football operations team fixtured over 3,400 games at 65 grounds in the South Metro area.”

The 2025 season featured 15 Home and Away rounds, the U8s Welcome to Footy Carnival, two Lightning Carnival weekends, and three weeks of finals including Semi, Preliminary, and Grand Finals, as well as the AFL Victoria Metro Junior Development Series. “None of this would be possible without the dedication and support of our incredible club volunteer network,” said Jamie Howden. He added, “On average, there are nine volunteers per junior football team which means more than 4,000 people contribute to keeping our great game running every weekend.”

Throughout the evening, the SMJFL recognised premiership-winning teams, Best & Fairest award winners, AFL Victoria Metro Junior Development Series award recipients, and outstanding club volunteers. Key awards included the Monash University Leader of the Year, the Westinghouse Club Administrator of the Year, and many more.

At just 15, Scarlett took the initiative to coach the club’s Under 13 Girls team, channelling her passion for the game into mentoring the next generation. Despite facing serious injury challenges, her positivity, strength, and selflessness have inspired her players and peers alike. Scarlett’s story is a shining example of the spirit and inclusivity that define the SMJFL community.
