Oakleigh Dragons 7.9 (51) def. Caulfield Bears 6.10 (46)  | Koornang Park

A close contest across all four quarters saw the Caulfield Bears and Oakleigh Dragons go head-to-head Koornang Reserve in a match that came down to the final siren.

Caulfield held a narrow two-point lead at the first break, and maintained that advantage through to the end of a tight second term. They extended the margin slightly to 8 points by three-quarter time, but the Oakleigh dug deep when it mattered most to produce a strong final quarter, kicking 3.4 to overrun the bears and secure the win.

Both sides had standout contributors in front of goal, with Luca Cipriani kicking five for Caulfield and Ari McLeod finishing with four for Oakleigh – two individual performances that kept the match alive to the very end.

HONOURABLE MENTIONS

Oakleigh Dragons U18 Girls DRAGONS def. East Sandringham Zebbies U18 Girls READE by 5 points

Oakleigh Dragons 4.7 (31) def. East Sandringham Zebbies 3.8 (26)

Another five‑point thriller for Oakleigh, this time in the girls’ competition. The Dragons opened strongly, holding East Sandy to a single point while kicking 2.2 in the first quarter to set up an early lead.

East Sandringham responded in the second term, finding their rhythm and matching Oakleigh’s scoring to close the gap heading into halftime. The third quarter swung the momentum again, with Oakleigh managing only a handful of points while the Zebras produced their most productive period of the match to edge closer.

With the game still in the balance at the final change, both sides produced an even last quarter. Oakleigh held firm defensively, matching East Sandy’s scoring and preventing a late overtake to secure a narrow and hard‑earned win.

A composed final term ensured the Dragons kept control when it mattered most.

The third quarter saw East Malvern steady themselves, finding just enough rhythm to edge further ahead while restricting East Sandy’s scoring. With only ten points separating the two teams at the final change, East Malvern produced their most composed football of the and finished with strong scoring effort while limiting East Sandringham’s opportunities to ensure the lead was never overturned.

PLAYER OF THE ROUND

Heejae Johnson

St Kilda City / Port Melbourne U14 Mixed ANDREWS

This week's Player of the Week is

Heejae Johnson, who quite literally threw himself into the contest this week. Not afraid of getting a little dirty, Heejae finished his team's match against Mordi-Brae covered in mud from head to toe.

His willingness to compete, chase, tackle and put his body on the line helped set the tone for his team, who went on to claim a well-earned win. It was a performance full of courage, commitment and a team-first attitude which earned Heejae this week's honours.
