TEAM PERFORMANCE OF THE ROUND
AJAX U15 Girls JACKETTES def. Ormond U15 Girls ASHFORD by 5 points
AJAX 5.5 (35) def. Ormond 4.6 (30) | Glen Huntly Park
Two teams coming off Round 1 losses, a windy morning at Glen Huntly Park, and a five-point margin at the final siren, this one had everything.
With the conditions making scoring difficult, both sides had to work hard for every opportunity. AJAX made the most of the wind in the third quarter, kicking three goals to none and effectively winning the game in that decisive stretch. To their credit, Ormond came hard in the final term but the Jackettes had just enough in the tank to hold on and bank a crucial first win of the season.
Captain Eve Lewinsohn was strong throughout, leading from the front in a tough contest, while Olivia Susman was dangerous all day and finished with 2 goals. For Ormond, Harper Pearson was one of their best in a losing side, doing everything she could to get her team over the line.
A gritty, hard-fought win, exactly the kind of response you want from a team after a Round 1 defeat. Well done, Jackettes!
HONORABLE MENTIONS
Waverley Park Hawks U16 Boys RYAN def. Beaumaris U16 Boys GREAT WHITES by 5 points
Waverley Park Hawks 10.10 (70) def. Beaumaris 9.11 (65) | Columbia Park
A quality bounce-back win from Waverley Park Hawks Ryan, who came into this one off the back of a loss while Beaumaris arrived with the confidence of a Round 1 win. The Great Whites matched it with WPH all day, leading at quarter time and staying in touch right to the final siren.
In the end it was WPH's Joseph Blangiardo who proved the difference, finishing with 5 goals in a match-winning individual display. Samuel Church was equally impressive for Beaumaris in a losing side, doing everything he could to get his team over the line. A tough, competitive game that could have gone either way.
Hampton Rovers U14 Mixed GREEN def. East Brighton Vampires U14 Mixed BELL by 1 point
Hampton Rovers 5.9 (39) def. East Brighton 5.8 (38) | Hurlingham Park
A grand final rematch, and this time Hampton Rovers got their revenge. East Brighton won the flag convincingly last year, but the Rovers came out with a point to prove on Sunday and delivered in the most dramatic fashion, holding on by a single point in a contest that had grand final intensity from the first bounce.
East Brighton led for much of the game but couldn't quite hold on as Hampton Rovers found a way to get the job done late, and for those watching at home, it was all played out live on My Sport Live. One point in a grand final rematch, doesn't get much better than that.
East Brighton Vampires U13 Girls SCOTT def. East Sandringham Zebbies U13 Girls BEVEN by 1 point
East Brighton 4.8 (32) def. East Sandringham 4.7 (31) | Elsternwick Park
East Sandringham hit the ground running and held the lead for much of the contest, but the Vampires showed great character to fight their way back into the game and snatch a one-point win at the final siren. Madison Crinis was a key contributor up forward, kicking 2 goals in what was a crucial team effort. Coming from behind to win by the smallest possible margin, a really gutsy performance from the Vampires.
PLAYER OF THE ROUND
Luca Cipriani
Caulfield Bears U17.5 Boys Webb
Seven goals in your team's first game of the season is about as good a way as you can announce yourself, and for Caulfield Bears vice-captain Luca Cipriani, it was a performance that will be talked about for a while. Having kicked just 1 goal last season, Luca came out in Round 2 and booted 7 in a single afternoon, a remarkable personal milestone that speaks to the work he has clearly put in over the off-season.
His dominant display up forward at E.E. Gunn Reserve set the tone for what was a massive team win over Ormond, and his impact on the scoreboard was central to the whole performance. If this is what the new season looks like for Luca, the rest of the competition will be taking note. What a start.

ANZAC DAY
This weekend's round fell the day after ANZAC day, and it was fitting that our players, coaches, and clubs took to the field with the spirit of the occasion in mind. Across all grades, it was a weekend of fierce competition, respect, and community, values that sit at the heart of both the ANZAC tradition and our great game.
To every player who laced up their boots this weekend, we hope you took a moment to reflect on the significance of the occasion.
Lest we forget.
