The South Metro Junior Football League (SMJFL) is pleased to announce the appointment of Matthew Brown as Chief Executive Officer (CEO).
A skilled sports industry leader with more than 20 years’ experience at both national and state-level sporting organisations, Matthew joins the SMJFL following CEO roles at both Calisthenics Victoria and Equestrian Victoria.
“Having worked across a variety of sports for much of my career, I am excited to join Victoria’s number one sport, leading a team of domain experts in an organisation that has such a great reputation,” said Matthew.
“I look forward to getting to know the SMJFL community, and, as I learn more about the organisation, people and clubs involved, I look forward to sharing my knowledge and sports management experience to ensure that the SMJFL continues to be an industry leader in the administration and delivery of junior football, whilst building a strong, positive community that more people have the opportunity to be part of.”
Matthew’s experience is underpinned by qualifications including an MBA from La Trobe University Melbourne, and a business degree majoring in Sport Management from Massey University, New Zealand.
SMJFL Chair, Richard Bowen said “Matthew’s strategic approach and understanding of the challenges faced by grassroots sport coupled with his demonstrated belief in the importance of supporting clubs and volunteers to do what they do best, will provide an excellent platform to make a positive contribution to football in the South Metro region, positioning the SMJFL for continued success.
“Together with the Board and Executive team, we welcome Matthew and look forward to continuing the SMJFL’s commitment to providing a safe, supportive and inclusive environment where health and wellbeing is paramount. Afterall, it really is all about the kids.”
Matthew commenced as CEO on 17 January.
