SMJFL locks in 2021 season

The South Metro Junior Football League (SMJFL) has confirmed to its community that its 2021 season will commence on Sunday 18 April 2021.

After a tumultuous year in 2020, the league’s Chief Executive Officer Sarah Loh confirmed the good news in a statement on Thursday 21 January.

“I can confirm that Round 1 of the SMJFL’s 2021 season will begin on Sunday the 18th of April, opening with the Monash University Round,” said Ms Loh.

“We are beyond thrilled for our football season to return to Melbourne’s South-East.”

The league was impacted by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic which halted its season – initially in April, and again in July.

“2020 presented a number of challenges for the league, but we worked hard to develop resources to support our clubs.”

“We offered the Footy 4 Fun program in November 2020 which was fantastic to see the kids have a kick with their friends.”

“With COVID-19 numbers now stabilised across Victoria, we’re confident for football to be played this year, with a continued focus on COVID-Safety and protecting our community members.”
