SMJFL Kicks Off The 2024 Season With The Annual Club Conference

On Sunday 25th February the South Metro Junior Football League held their annual Club Conference partnered by OpenCorp and Options Consulting Group and was well attended by all 26 Member Clubs.  

The day kicked off with an address from SMJFL CEO Matthew Brown followed by a series of guest speakers from some of our wonderful partners of the league including Michael Beresford – OpenCorp Director, Julian Dunne - Grill'd Chief Marketing Officer, Chris Larkins - St Kilda Football Club Executive General Manager- Commercial, and Helen Russell – The Trybe Marketing Manager.


Club Presidents, Secretaries, and Committee Members attended a number of sessions throughout the day from Football Operations to Injury Management and Concussion. Attendees on the day also heard from guest presenters Mark Wheeler- Sandringham Dragons Talent Lead, Dani Cornwall – PlayHQ Community Lead, Jim Domingo from Marsh Insurance, Dr David Munro from Melbourne Physio Concussion Clinic, and Paul Milo & Jonathan Edge from AFL Victoria.  

A huge thank you to Howzit Brew Mobile Cafe for keeping us caffeinated and to Grill'd for catering our lunch.  

Claire Versace from Ashwood Junior Football Club attended and stated that “The SMJFL Club Conference is always a great day that gives Committee members from all Clubs the opportunity to network, exchange ideas and hear about the upcoming season. Thank you to the SMJFL Team for all their efforts before and on the day in putting these conferences together.” 

Cameron Watts General Manager – Member & Business Services said, “having over 200 Club Committee members attend the day shows how strong our community is, how dedicated our volunteers are, and how excited everyone is for the season ahead.”
