SMJFL 2023 INTERLEAGUE SQUADS ANNOUNCED

The South Metro Junior Football League (SMJFL) has announced its 2023 Interleague squads to represent the league at this year’s AFL Victoria Metro Junior Development Series.

The league will be fielding eight teams as part of the series, including for the very first time the Under 14 Girls age group.

“We are both extremely excited and thrilled for the Under 14’s Girl’s age group to feature in this year’s Metro Junior Development Series,” said SMJFL Pathway Director Gab Suriano.

“The Metro Junior Development Series is not only a great opportunity for the participants to play representative football, but to experience a high-performance program through the coaching and training provided,”

“With so much growth and potential in the girl’s footy space, it only makes sense to include an Under 14’s age group to further continue the development of our young female footballers.”

During the AFL Metro Development Series, all 25 Member Clubs of the SMJFL will be represented in at least one team.

“The SMJFL prides itself on parity and opportunity for all participants and Member Clubs who make up our league, so it is only fitting we have all 25 Member Clubs represent us,” said SMJFL GM – Football Operations Bree Vallance.

“With the league covering six different LGA’s and Parks Victoria, we have a diverse and sprawling community, and everyone one of our clubs and participants are integral to our makeup and our community.”

“I am really looking forward to seeing all the players from the different clubs come together to showcase the SMJFL throughout the series.”

The AFL Victoria Metro Junior Development Series begins on Wednesday 31 May, before two more games are featured during the King’s Birthday Long Weekend on Saturday 10 and Monday 12 June.
