MONASH UNIVERSITY MONDAY REVIEW – ROUND 9

MY PHYSIO ROUND 9 SUNDAY 19 JUNE

MONASH UNIVERSITY U18 GIRLS DIVISION 1 Cheltenham 4.1.25 defeated by Port Melbourne/South Melbourne Districts 9.16.70.

PMSMD have won for the second weekend in a row, this time knocking off Cheltenham at Le Page Park Oval. Despite Port South leading for the entire game, Cheltenham were within striking distance through the first three quarters, only trailing by two goals heading into the final period. Whilst Cheltenham had their best scoring quarter in the fourth, it wasn’t enough to make up for the 7 goals kicked by PMSMD as they take a 45-point win.

East Malvern Knights 5.8.38 defeated Beaumaris 3.4.22.

The East Malvern Knights continue their surge at the top of the ladder as they chalk up another victory, this week against Beaumaris at DW Lucas. After the first half of play, it looked like the Knights were going to come away comfortably with a win. However, a late game push from the Sharks forced East Malvern to turn up the intensity as they secured just a 16-point victory. Emily Gough led the charge for East Malvern as she topped all goal kickers this week with 4.

St Kilda City 1.0.6 defeated by Mordialloc Braeside 13.14.92.

Mordialloc-Braeside’s three game streak is still alive after they take a considerable victory over St Kilda City at Peanut Farm Reserve. By keeping their opponents scoreless for some time, Mordi-Brae delivered an emphatic win this weekend as they chase the top spot on the ladder. The offensive blitz that was seen all game long by the Mustangs was led by Lucia Marin as she booted a bag of 5 goals.

East Brighton Vampires 4.2.26 defeated by Prahran 6.5.42.

Having won three games in a row, Prahran have been feeling it lately as they took down the East Brighton Vampires at Hurlingham Park Oval. The game could have gone either way through the first half of play as the Vampires trailed by just 2 goals entering the main break. However, a high scoring third quarter from Prahran sealed the deal as they held the lead and end the game with a 15-point victory. Leading the pack up forward for Prahran was Lucy Hudson with 4 goals to her name.

MONASH UNIVERSITY U17.5 BOYS DIVISION 1 Ormond 2.5.17 defeated by St Bedes/Mentone Tigers 13.17.95.

Continuing their winning streak, St Bedes/Mentone Tigers have overcome Ormand at EE Gunn Reserve over the weekend. The Tigers came out of the gates strong and set the tone for the rest of the match with their dominant first half. The 78-point win came behind yet another standout performance from Tigers forwards Luke Dunn and Max Hoult as they both continue to lead the league in goals kicked.

Port Melbourne/South Melbourne Districts 7.8.50 defeated by Beaumaris 27.16.178.

Beaumaris continue to stay in touch with the league leaders as they delivered an emphatic win against PMSMD at Murphy Reserve. PMSMD were able to stay within reach after the first quarter of play, although the second term saw the Sharks take off as they ran away with the lead. This statement victory came off the back of the efforts from Oliver Goodger as he kicked an impressive 11 goals straight for Beaumaris.

St Peters Bulldogs 12.9.81 defeated East Sandringham Rovers 6.7.43.

St Peters have secured another victory coming off the back of last week’s win, this time against East Sandringham at Centenary Park. The game went back and forth each quarter as the two teams pushed each other to their limits. The final term however saw the Bulldogs run away with the game as they kicked 5 goals to the Rovers’ 2 points, securing a 38-point win. Team effort was on full display for the Bulldogs as Anthony Ferrara, Aaron Taylor and Ned Bodi each nailed 3 goals.
