Ormond have marched up the ladder this week after victory over Brighton Beach this week at Brighton Beach Oval.
The Kangaroos got off to a promising start, feeling right at home in the first quarter as they gained a quick lead over Ormond.
However, after kicking five goals to two in the second quarter, Ormond set the tone for the rest of the game as they gained a leg up on the Roos.
“It’s been all about adjusting since moving up from Division 2, we have just been trying to get a grip on the league standard,” said Ormond coach Matthew Wood.
The Monders continued to challenge the Brighton Beach defence, nailing another four goals in the third period, securing a 20-point lead at the last change.
Brighton Beach looked to make a late push, but the consistent forward 50 entries for Ormond made it difficult to close the gap.
“It’s been about getting the boys to stick to the plan during the game, rather than playing for themselves,” Wood continued.
With four players kicking multiple goals for the Monders, team efforts were on full display as they continuously made the right decisions, sharing the ball around.
“Hopefully the win can give the boys some more confidence, letting them know they can compete at this level.”
U17.5s Boys Division 1
St. Bedes/Mentone Tigers 21.14.140 defeated Ormond 4.3.27.
Continuing from last week’s memorable victory, St Bedes/Mentone were too good for Ormond at Southern Road Reserve. The Tigers set the standard of the game from the very first bounce as they continue to make a statement across the league. Tigers’ forwards Luke Dunn and Max Hoult continue to lead the pack as the top two league leading goal kickers, with Dunn kicking 9 and Hoult kicking 8 respectively this week.
U17.5s Boys Division 1
East Sandringham Rovers 9.10.64 defeated by Beaumaris Sharks 11.8.75.
Beaumaris win their second game in a row, this week against the East Sandringham Rovers at Boss James Reserve. The first half saw the game go back and forth as Beaumaris stole the lead from East Sandringham to conclude the first half with a one-point lead. Neither side could gain a clear advantage on the scoreboard for some time as the Sharks were still within arm’s length after three quarters of play. The Rovers were unable to claw their way back into the game and make up the deficit as the Sharks secure an 11-point win.
U17.5s Boys Division 1
Port Melbourne/South Melbourne Districts 6.2.38 defeated by St. Peters Bulldogs 17.15.117.
The St Peters Bulldogs have come back strong after last week’s defeat to win against PMSMD at Murphy Reserve. Port/South were competitive in the first half, only trailing by 2 points in the first quarter and continuing to fight going into the main break. However, the Bulldogs flew out of the gates after halftime kicking four goals to PMSMD’s one as they began to run away with the game. In a final quarter blitz, the Bulldogs booted six unanswered goals to secure their fifth win of the season. Leading the charge for the Bulldogs upfront was Luke Lloyd with an impressive nine goals.
U18s Girls Division 1
Beaumaris Sharks 2.9.21 defeated by East Malvern Knights 10.6.66.
East Malvern Knights have come out of round six with another win, remaining undefeated as they put away Beaumaris at Beaumaris Secondary College. It was a competitive first half, before East Malvern took off in the second quarter, kicking four goals. The margin continued to grow as the Knights pull away with 5 more goals, finishing with a 45-point victory. Mia Zielinski continues to dominate up forward for the Knights, still leading the league goal kicking, after finishing with four majors.
U18s Girls Division 1
Port Melbourne/South Melbourne Districts 10.4.64 defeated East Brighton Vampires 1.4.10
PMSMD joined the winners circle this weekend against East Brighton at Ross Gregory Oval. The Bolts kept their opponents scoreless in the first quarter and took off with a 25-point lead. Despite outscoring PMSMD in the second quarter, the Vampires still had ground to make up entering the main break. With an impressive start to the second half, PMSMD once again kept East Brighton from scoring as they recorded another four goals, running out with a comfortable 54-point victory. Zari Mildenhall had an impressive game for the Bolts with three goals to her name.
U18s Girls Division 1 St. Bedes/Mentone Tigers 2.2.14 defeated by St. Kilda City 9.10.64
St Kilda City had a convincing win this week against St Bedes/Mentone Tigers at Southern Road Reserve. The Saints started the game strong and didn’t let up through four quarters of play. Despite their best efforts, the Tigers just fell short each quarter. Restricting their opponents to no more than two scoring shots in a half, St Kilda were able to run away with a 50-point victory.
U18s Girls Division 1
Mordialloc/Braeside 16.8.104 defeated Prahran 3.1.19
Continuing as one of the stronger sides in the league, Mordi/Brae have taken another victory this week at Walter Galt Reserve against Prahran. With their third win in a row, the Mustangs are chasing the top spot, comfortably sitting in second place on the ladder. Shared team efforts from Mordi/Brae were on notice in the win, ending the game with eight individual goal kickers, with four multiple goal kickers. Georgie Grubb led the charge for the Mustangs with four majors.
