MATCH OF THE ROUND

East Brighton Vampires U16 Girls STEVENS def. East Malvern U16 Girls BEASLEY by 50 points

E Brighton 6.14 (50) def. E Malvern 0.0 (0) | Hurlingham Park

Last week, the East Brighton Vampires U16 Girls lost for the first time since Round 9 of 2025. For a side of this calibre, last year's premiers and one of the competition's most consistent performers, it was a rare and refreshing result for others in the competition.

On Sunday, they made their response very clear.

In tough conditions at Hurlingham Park, the Vampires were utterly dominant from the first bounce, keeping East Malvern scoreless across all four quarters and running out 50-point winners. It was the kind of performance that reminded the competition exactly who they are dealing with. Georgia Naughton was sharp up forward with 2 goals, while Ruby Page was one of the Vampires' most consistent performers all day. For East Malvern, Sibella During gave her side everything she had.

A statement win from a side that clearly hasn't forgotten how to win.

HONOURABLE MENTIONS

Mordialloc-Braeside U17.5 Boys HANNAFORD def. AJAX U17.5 Boys ROCKETS by 1 point

Mordialloc-Braeside 5.10 (40) def. AJAX 5.9 (39) | Princes Park (Caulfield South)

As come-from-behind wins go, this one was a beauty. AJAX held a commanding lead at quarter time and looked in control for much of the first half, but Mordi-Brae had other ideas, storming back into the contest in the second quarter and grinding their way back into the game before snatching a famous one-point win at the final siren.

Captain Fisher O'Brien led from the front throughout, and alongside Aidan Lynch gave Mordi-Brae the drive and composure they needed to see the game out when the pressure was at its highest. Archie Kalb was excellent in a losing side for AJAX. A brilliant contest, and one point the difference in the end.

St Bedes / Mentone Tigers U11 Boys Mixed RED def. AJAX U11 Boys Mixed SHARKS by 25 points

SBMT 7.9 (51) def. AJAX 4.2 (26) U11 Mixed Div 4, Round 5 | East Caulfield Reserve

A really special result for SBMT U11 Mixed RED, who claimed their first win of the season in their first game after grading. Having not won all year, this group kept showing up, kept working hard, and on Sunday it all clicked, building strongly throughout the game and running out convincing 25-point winners over AJAX.

For these kids and their families on the sideline, this one would have meant everything. Brilliant effort from the whole group!

South Melbourne Districts JFC U9 Girls RED vs Caulfield / St Pauls U9 Girls POWELL

U9 Girls | 8:00 AM | East Caulfield Reserve

An honourable mention that has nothing to do with the scoreboard, because at U9 level, it's all about getting out there and having a go. Both sides were up at the crack of dawn for an 8am start in cold, wet conditions at East Caulfield Reserve, and not one of them let it dampen their spirits. Every single girl out there was an absolute superstar on Sunday morning, and their parents and coaches on the sideline would have been incredibly proud. That's what junior footy is all about!

PLAYER OF THE ROUND

Joshua Newton

Murrumbeena/St Peters U15 Boys GRIFFINS

On a cold, wet Sunday that would have had plenty of people questioning whether they wanted to be out there, Joshua Newton had absolutely no such doubts. The Murrumbeena/St Peters forward was at his damaging best against St Kilda City, booting 4 goals in a strong team win to go with the 7 he kicked last week.

That's 11 goals in two weeks and 17 for the season. In these conditions. For a U15 player, that kind of output is seriously impressive, and what stands out is that it isn't just about the numbers. Joshua has a knack for being in the right place at the right time, making smart decisions under pressure and consistently delivering when his team needs it most.

If the competition hasn't taken notice of Joshua Newton yet, they certainly will now. Keep it up!
