ROUND 4 – AFL COMMUNITY UMPIRE ROUND – PARTNERED BY OPENCORP

As part of AFL Community Umpire Week, on behalf of the league I would like to acknowledge and thank a few people.


Firstly, Umpire AFL for this initiative. Every year our league looks forward to this round to celebrate our Umpire Academy, and this year was no exception. A big thank you to the AFL Umpires who attended Moorleigh Reserve for training last Wednesday evening:

And lastly, to the entire SMJFL community, our Member Clubs, the players and most of all, our Umpires, who all celebrated and acknowledged the wonderful work our Umpires do to ensure everyone can play footy.

Monash University Under 17.5 Boys Division 1

Sandy Rovers Highett 4.9.33 def by. St. Kilda City 11.12.78

A commanding first half from St. Kilda City has seen the Saints notch up their third win of 2023, defeating Sandy Rovers Highett at Highett Reserve. The Saints were able to capitalize on their opportunities in front of goal before half time, with SRH’s inaccuracy helping St. Kilda City’s cause.


Ormond 6.16.52 d. Mordialloc-Braeside 6.4.40

Ormond continued its great start to the season with a win over Mordialloc-Braeside at EE Gunn Reserve. Trailing at the main break, in part to some inaccuracy in front of goal, the Monders were able to continue to hit the scoreboard in the second half, finishing with a 12-point victory.

Oakleigh Dragons 1.5.11 def by. East Malvern LUCAS-RODD 2.2.14

Friday Night lights at Scammell saw East Malvern LUCAS-RODD snatch victory from the jaws of defeat over Oakleigh Dragons. Trailing at every break, the Knights kicked the only goal of the final term to notch their second win of the season.

Mordialloc-Braeside 3.6.24 def by. Prahran 5.7.37

Prahran’s undefeated start to 2023 has continued, this time with a win over Mordialloc-Braeside. After the Blues jumped out of the blocks, leading 16-0 at the first break, the Mustangs were able to hit back in the second, evening the score at half time. However, a three-goal-to-one second half for Prahran secured the victory.


Bentleigh/St. Peters 9.9.63 d. Beaumaris GREAT WHITES 3.8.26

After a first quarter blitz, Bentleigh/St. Peters have jumped into the winners circle for the first time this season, with a win over Beaumaris at King George Reserve. A four-goal-to-zip first quarter gave BSP the perfect start, as they eventually ran away 37-point winners.

St. Kilda City 12.10.82 d. East Brighton Vampires 5.4.34


St. Kilda City have made it four wins on the trot to their season, defeating East Brighton Vampires at Wattie Watson Oval. The Saints led at every break, however a commanding third term ensured they would remain undefeated in 2023.
