MONASH UNIVERSITY MONDAY REVIEW - ROUND 14 2026

This week, our U8s and U9s capped off their season with Lightning Carnivals held at McKinnon Reserve, Highett Reserve and Chadwick Reserve. Each team played a round robin format with the aim of getting out on the field and having fun playing footy. Despite the windy conditions, these carnivals were a great way to complete the season for our youngest players.

MATCH OF THE ROUND Oakleigh Dragons U18 Girls DRAGONS def. East Sandringham Zebbies U18 Girls READE by 5 points

Oakleigh Dragons 4.10 (34) def. East Sandringham Zebbies 4.5 (29) | Scammell Reserve

Oakleigh Dragons held strong in a tight contest at Scammell Reserve, edging out East Sandringham by five points.


Oakleigh set the tone early, controlling the first quarter with 1.4 while keeping East Sandringham scoreless to take a ten‑point lead into the opening break. The Zebbies responded sharply in the second term, kicking 2.3 and holding Oakleigh to a single point, flipping the momentum and narrowing the margin to just four points at half time.


The Dragons regained control in the third quarter, adding 2.3 while restricting East Sandringham to 1.1, stretching the lead back out to ten points heading into a tense final term. The Zebbies pushed hard late, kicking two goals to close the gap in the final quarter, but Oakleigh’s earlier advantage proved decisive, scoring 1.2 and holding on for a composed 34-29 victory in a match that stayed alive until the final minutes.

Ormond U17.5 Boys EDWARDS drew St Peters/Murrumbeena U17.5 Boys LIONS

Ormond and St Peters / Murrumbeena delivered a dramatic finish, finishing locked at 60 apiece after a tense game across all four quarters.


St Peters / Murrumbeena kicked 2.4 to Ormond’s 2.2 in the first quarter to take a narrow two‑point lead into quarter time. They built on that momentum in the second term, adding another 2.4 while holding Ormond to just four behinds, stretching the margin to 14 points at the main break.


The third quarter flipped the contest entirely. Ormond surged with 4.4 while restricting St Peters / Murrumbeena to 1.1, reclaiming the lead and taking a seven‑point advantage into the final term. With both sides trading goals and behinds in a tense last quarter, the margin tightened with every forward entry.


The siren sounded with scores tied at 8.12 each - a hard‑earned draw in one of the round’s most evenly matched contests.


East Malvern U15 Boys STONE def. St Bedes/Mentone Tigers RED by 22 points

East Malvern 10.8 (68) def. SBMT 6.10 (48) | Mentone Reserve


East Malvern produced a powerful second‑half surge at Mentone Reserve to claim a 22‑point win over SBMT.


SBMT started the stronger of the two sides, kicking 3.2 in the opening term to take a five‑point lead into quarter time. They maintained their edge through the second quarter, adding another goal and holding East Malvern to 1.4, preserving a narrow three‑point advantage at the main break.


The game flipped sharply after halftime. East Malvern broke the contest open in the third term, piling on 5.1 while restricting SBMT to just 1.1. Their pressure around the ball and ability to convert swung the momentum entirely, turning a three‑point deficit into a 21‑point lead at the final change.


SBMT fought hard in the last quarter, adding another goal, but East Malvern’s earlier dominance held firm. Two more goals sealed the result, completing a composed and convincing 68-46 victory built off a decisive third‑quarter performance.


Beaumaris U13 Mixed SHARKS def Murrumbeena U13 Mixed LIONS by 2 points

Beaumaris 6.7 (43) def. Murrumbeena 5.11 (41) | Jack Barker Oval


Beaumaris held on in a nail‑biting finish at Jack Barker Oval, edging out Murrumbeena by just two points.


Beaumaris started strongly, kicking 3.1 in the opening term while restricting Murrumbeena to 1.2 to take an 11‑point lead into quarter time. Murrumbeena responded in the second quarter, adding 2.3 and tightening their defences to pull the margin back to four points at the main break.


Beaumaris found their rhythm again in the third, kicking 2.4 while holding Murrumbeena to 0.3, stretching the lead to 17 points heading into the final term. But the game was far from over - Murrumbeena surged late, piling on 2.3 in the last quarter.


Despite the late pressure, Beaumaris held firm in the dying minutes and walked away with a hard‑earned 43-41 victory.

Isla Mattsson

East Sandringham Zebbies U18 Girls READE

This week's Player of the Round is Isla Mattsson of the East Sandringham Zebbies. In her team's narrow 5-point loss to the Oakleigh Dragons this week, Isla kicked three of her team's four goals, making her a valuable asset to her team. Isla is one to watch, also being a member of the Sandringham Dragons U18 squad.
