MONASH UNIVERSITY MONDAY REVIEW - ROUND 11 2026

This week, we celebrated the women and girls of the SMJFL. Women and Girls' Round is an opportunity to recognise and celebrate the contribution that women and girls make to our game and our league, while inspiring the next generation to see that there is a place for them in football - whether that's on the field, on the sidelines, or behind the scenes.

 

Across the SMJFL, women and girls play an essential role as players, umpires, coaches, volunteers, administrators, photographers, team managers and leaders. Their passion, dedication and commitment help strengthen our clubs, enrich our communities and shape the future of our game.


As we celebrate Women and Girls' Round, we thank every woman and girl who gives their time, talent and energy to the SMJFL. Your contribution creates opportunities, breaks down barriers and inspires future generations to be part of football in every capacity.

MATCH OF THE ROUND

St Kilda City U13 Girls BEATTIE def. Beaumaris U13 Girls SHARKS by 8 points

St Kilda City 3.7 (25) def. Beaumaris 2.5 (17) | Wattie Watson Reserve


St Kilda City made the most of their home ground advantage at Elwood Park, ending a run of tough results with an eight-point win over Beaumaris in a tight contest.


Across the first three quarters, neither side managed to break away. St Kilda City held a narrow one-point lead at every change, with both teams trading goals and behinds in what became a low-scoring, defensive contest.


The final term proved decisive, with St Kilda City finding an additional 1.2 while restricting Beaumaris to a single behind in the quarter. This small advantage was all they needed, closing out the match and securing a much-needed home victory.

AJAX U15 Boys FALCONS def. St Kilda City / Port Melbourne U15 Boys TREVITT by 14 points

AJAX 9.9 (63) def. St Kilda City/Port Melbourne 7.7 (49) | Glen Huntly Park


AJAX claimed a hard-earned 14-point win over St Kilda City/Port Melbourne, overturning an early deficit to secure the win at Glen Huntly Park.


St Kilda City/Port Melbourne started the stronger of the two sides, putting away 3.5 compared to AJAX's 3 goals to take a five-point lead at quarter time. The match swung sharply in the second term, with AJAX piling on 3.3 while holding their opponents to just a single point, flipping the scoreboard in their advantage at the main break.


The third quarter saw St Kilda City/Port Melbourne respond with 2.2, narrowing the margin, although AJAX's 1.1 ensured they maintained control heading into the final change.


Both teams finished by posting 2.2 in the final quarter, leaving AJAX ahead at the final siren for a composed win built off their dominant second term.


East Brighton Vampires U15 Boys WEBER def. Murrumbeena / St Peters U15 Boys GRIFFINS by 10 points

East Brighton Vampires 12.9 (81) def. Murrumbeena / St Peters 10.11 (71) | Murrumbeena Park


This match featured a great comeback from Murrumbeena/St Peters, clawing their way back from a large early deficit before ultimately falling only 10 points short of victory.


East Brighton set the tone early with a dominant opening quarter, scoring 4.5 in the first quarter to Murrumbeena/St Peters' 1.1 for a 22-point lead at the first break. The Vampires' momentum continued throughout the second term, adding another 6 goals to reach 10.5 by half time. However Murrumbeena/St Peters kept themselves in the contest with 3.2 for the quarter, lifting their total to 4.3 at the main break.


The tides turned after half time, with East Brighton only scoring 4 points, while Murrumbeena/St Peters added 2.3 to reduce the margin and set up a competitive final term. Murrumbeena/St Peters finished strongly in the final quarter, kicking 4.5 to East Brighton's 2.0, closing the gap significantly but not quite enough to overturn the early dominance of East Brighton.


East Malvern U14 Girls VESELY def. Murrumbeena U14 Girls LIONESSES

East Malvern 7.3 (45) def. Murrumbeena 5.6 (36) | DW Lucas Oval


East Malvern produced a composed comeback at DW Lucas Oval, overturning a slow start to claim a nine-point win over Murrumbeena.


Murrumbeena controlled the opening term, kicking 3.2 to East Malvern's single goal to take a 14-point lead into quarter time. East Malvern responded strongly in the second quarter, adding 2.2 while holding Murrumbeena to just one additional goal, narrowing the margin to seven points at the main break.


The gap tightened again in the third quarter, with East Malvern posting 1.1 to Murrumbeena's three points, reducing the margin even further to just three points and setting up a tense final term where East Malvern saved their best for last. They piled on 3 goals in the final quarter, restricting Murrumbeena to just a single goal in a surge that carried them past the Lionesses to secure victory.

Kahsia Lockwood is the Player of the Round for Round 11, marking her 100th game in style with a well-earned win alongside her Mordi-Brae teammates.


Kahsia is an influential player on the field, with her influence stretching well beyond this round to the Talent League, where she plays for the Sandringham Dragons U16 Girls.
