MONASH UNIVERSITY MONDAY REVIEW - ROUND 10 2026

This week saw thousands of SMJFL players and umpires run out on to the field donning colourful socks to raise funds and awareness for TeamSports4All.


TeamSports4All supports families doing it tough to support their kids to play sport, and do everything they can to help make team sport accessible for every child.

MATCH OF THE ROUND

Highett/Cheltenham Panthers U14 Mixed FAHEY def. Murrumbeena U14 Mixed LIONS by 3 points

This match at Le Page Park came right down to the wire at with two well-matched teams producing a low-scoring thriller.


Highett/Cheltenham started strongly, kicking 1.2 in the opening term while holding Murrumbeena to only 0.2. The Panthers slowed slightly in the second quarter but maintained control, carrying a small lead into halftime.


Momentum swung sharply after the break. Murrumbeena found their spark in the third term, piling on four goals to turn the match on its head and take a narrow lead into the final change.


But the Panthers weren't done. They surged in the last quarter, steadying under pressure and finishing with the decisive goal in the dying seconds to reclaim the lead and secure a hard-fought victory.


HONOURABLE MENTIONS


St Kilda City U18 Girls FEFERKRANZ def. Prahran U18 Girls MCKAY by 6 points

St Kilda City 2.8 (20) def. Prahran (2.2) | Elwood Park


Another low-scoring contest, this time one that was hanging in the balance at three-quarter time. The match began slowly, with just a single goal scored in the opening term. Neither side managed a goal int he second quarter, though St Kilda City chipped away at the margin with three points to keep the pressure on.


The third term saw both teams finally find some rhythm. St Kilda City added 1.1 while Prahran responded with a goal of their own, narrowing the margin to just one point heading into the final change.


With the game on a knife-edge, St Kilda City produced their most composed football of the day in the last quarter. They kicked 1.2 while holding Prahran to a single point, enough to secure a hard-earned win in a match where every point mattered.


Mordialloc-Braeside U17.5 Boys HANNAN def. Caulfield Bears U17.5 Boys WEBB by 6 points

This match ran deeper than the final score suggests, with momentum swinging sharply across all four quarters. Mordi-Brae came out swinging in the first quarter, building a strong 18-point lead by quarter time while Caulfield managed just a single point.


The second term saw the tide begin to turn. Mordi-Brae slowed, adding only 1.1 to their tally, while Caulfield worked their way back into the contest with a productive scoring period that tightened the margin heading into half time.


The third quarter offered Caulfield an opening to get back into the game, chipping away at the margin with 5 points and 2 goals, but Mordi-Brae kept their noses in front by answering with a couple of goals.


Caulfield saved their best for last, producing an impressive final-term surge with four goals and a point. But Mordi-Brae matched them with a strong quarter of their own, with their strong foundations from the first quarter proving just enough to hold off the Bears and claim victory.


Hampton Rovers U12 Mixed YELLOW def. St Kilda City U12 Mixed ANDREWS by 37 points

A dominant first-quarter display from Hampton Rovers set the tone for this match, breaking out with a powerful 7.2 while St Kilda City managed two early goals. The Rovers' momentum eased slightly in the second term, but they still extended their lead with another 2.1 as St Kilda City added a single goal.


The third quarter was more evenly matched, with Hampton adding 1.2 and St Kilda City responding with another goal to keep themselves in the contest. The final term saw both sides finish strongly, with Hampton kicking 2.2 and St Kilda City adding three more goals, but the Rovers' early dominance ensured the margin remained comfortable.


A standout performance came from Rex Ryan, who kicked six of Hampton's twelve goals, a superb individual performance that helped drive his team to victory.

The Player of the Round for Round 10 is Samuel Wende, whose selfless, team‑first football was central to his side’s win over Murrumbeena. Samuel consistently looked to move the ball forward, linking up play, creating opportunities, and lifting his teammates in key moments in a performance that shaped the result.
