Monash University Leader of the Month - July

The SMJFL is proud to recognise Ned Lowe as the Monash University Leader of the Month for July.

Playing for Prahran Junior Football Club, Ned is a natural leader with a genuine desire for continuous improvement, not only for himself but also for those around him. He celebrates the success of others, encourages his teammates through challenges, and consistently puts the team ahead of individual recognition.

Earlier this year, Ned faced disappointment when he was not initially selected for the STK Academy. Rather than allowing this setback to discourage him, Ned used it as motivation to improve, work harder, and prove himself as a footballer. His perseverance and resilience was rewarded with a mid-season call-up, an opportunity he seized with both hands to play in two Interleague games for the SMJFL.

Ned is not the loudest voice in the room, nor does he seek the spotlight, yet he influences those around him and leaves a lasting impact. Through his maturity, focus, commitment and unwavering reliability, he sets a standard that inspires his teammates and peers to lift their own performance. His actions demonstrate that leadership comes down to character and consistency, rather than words alone.

Ned's journey is a powerful example of determination, humility and leadership in action. He shows that setbacks can become stepping stones, and that true leaders inspire others through the example they set every day.

Nominations for the 2026 Monash University Leadership award are now open. This award recognises a young leader in the SMJFL community who demonstrates leadership qualities. This award aims to highlight individuals who lead through their actions, not necessarily the loudest or most athletic.

One young person will be selected from all nominations to be awarded the annual Monash University Leadership Award, with a winner being highlighted each month from the nomination pool.
