Monash University Leader of the Month - August

The SMJFL is proud to recognise James Rigano as the Monash University Leader of the Month for August.

This season, James has volunteered at Highett JFC's Auskick program each Wednesday and Sunday, giving his time and passion to assist the younger kids at the club and supporting the coordinator in any way he can.

As part of the Panthers Alliance, James plays for the U14 Highett team and is a key player in the back and midfield. He is also part of the young leaders program at the club, aiming to empower players and volunteers to be positively involved in the club and give back to the community. James' involvement in this program involves volunteering with young leaders to engage the Highett modified rules teams, including working with the U8 Girls and Mixed teams during awards night, and running activities for them.

James is a respected member of Highett JFC, bringing together the Alliance teams and Highett Junior teams as one club. James' willingness to support younger players, and give up his time to be involved in Auskick, the Junior Club, and the Youth Leaders Program has earned him the honour of being this month's Monash Leader of the Month.

Nominations for the 2026 Monash University Leadership award are now open. This award recognises a young leader in the SMJFL community who demonstrates leadership qualities. This award aims to highlight individuals who lead through their actions, not necessarily the loudest or most athletic.

One young person will be selected from all nominations to be awarded the annual Monash University Leadership Award, with a winner being highlighted each month from the nomination pool.
