IKON ROUND WRAP-UP

On Sunday 10th August South Metro Junior Football League (SMJFL) held a Women & Girls Round, proudly sponsored by IKON Services Australia which was hosted by Oakleigh Dragons Junior Football Club at Scammell Reserve.

IKON are committed to supporting women & girls in sport and kindly also sponsored our IKON Female Player on the day medals for each girl’s teams playing on the day.

It was an amazing day and the girls brought on the entertainment with competitive and fun-filled matches.

SMJFL would like to give a huge thanks to Justine Leopold and her Committee for making the IKON Women & Girls Round possible! It was an excellent day, perfect weather conditions, sun shining and fantastic women and girls matches on show.

Under 11 Girls Div 3: Oakleigh Dragons JFC defeated Mordi-Brae JFC

Oakleigh Dragons kicked off the first girls’ match at Scammell with a bang as they secured a 38-point victory against Mordi-Brae. From the first siren the Dragons had control of the game and took it in their stride, making all their scoring opportunities possible.

However, Mordi-Brae continued to oppose their efforts and pushed on until the end final siren. The Dragons goal scorers were Pippa Rogers (2 goals), Lucy Foster (1 goal), Anais Bongiorno (1 goal), and Emily Cabonaro (1 goal).

Congratulations to the Best on ground winners Giann Barratt (Oakleigh Dragons) and Francesca Mustica (Mordi-Brae).

The Hampton Rovers won by 44 points against Oakleigh Dragons. Hampton brought their A Game to Scammell Reserve and didn’t stop, scoring an amazing 4 goals by halftime and continuing to a spectacular 7 goals altogether in the game.

Hamptons Remy Bannister was a standout throughout the game as she continued to gain possession and create opportunities for her teammates. In addition, Lola Rayner from Hampton booted a strong 2 goals.

Despite only scoring in the last quarter the Dragons played their best quarter of the game in the last and pushed themselves at every chance to stop Hamptons momentum.

The Best on Ground were Remy Bannister (Hampton Rovers) and Alexis Crookes (Oakleigh Dragons)

Congratulations to the Dragons’ Sophia Francis on her 50th game!

Under 15 Girls Div 1: Oakleigh Dragons JFC defeated St Peters FC

ree

Oakleigh Dragons secured a 2-point victory against St Peters. Intense would be an understatement for this game. The two evenly placed teams were each on one another’s tail as the lead switched hands many times.

After the first quarter St Peters had the lead then it switched to the Dragons at halftime. Once again, the lead changed after the third quarter to St Peters, and within the final quarter the tension built as the Dragons regained the lead.

Coming down to a nail-biting finish, the dragons lost possession in their half of the field as St Peters broke it free, however as the last 30 seconds of the game ticked over, they were unable to beat the dragons. The star goal scorer for the Dragons was Natasha Sturrock with 2 goals. St Peters star scorer Jade Dind also booted 2 goals.

The Best on ground winners were Isla Van Hoos (St Peters) and Lucia Shaw (Oakleigh Dragons).

Congratulations to Bonnie Allan on her 50th game!

Under 18 Girls Div 1: Murrumbeena JFC defeated by Prahran JFC

ree

Prahran defeated Murrumbeena in yet another close game at Scammell Reserve. As the game began instantly the competition was alive, each team scoring after one another. At quarter time both teams had 13 points on the scoreboard.

Following that, the contest truly kicked off as the teams tried to match each other. Impressively at halftime the score stood at 26 points to Murrumbeena and 25 points to Prahran.

After halftime Prahran brought on their intensity and managed to grow the score margin. By three quarter time the game we thought was a shoe in for Prahran to take the victory as they had the momentum.

However, the Lionesses kept their pressure with Jaeda Mellow showing great defensive presence on the field as Prahran’s Izabela Ignjic came into their attacking forward 50.

The Best on Grounds were Lily McDonald (Murrumbeena) and Hanna Kahsnitz (Prahran).

Thank you to Murrumbeena for giving up a home game to join the girls’ games at Scammell Reserve for the Round 13!
