The SMJFL has announced the 2024 Season Dates, highlighting three key events of the season.
The season will kick off with Round 1, which includes the U8’s Welcome Back to Footy Carnival, on Sunday 14 April.
SMJFL General Manager – Football Operations Bree Vallance announced that "Round 1 will start a week earlier than usual in order to cater for the increased break during the winter school holidays, which is also a new addition to the 2024 season."
“There is an extra weekend off during the winter school holidays to minimise the number of forfeits and/or to ensure no teams are disadvantaged by not being able to field a significant proportion of their players. Furthermore, it will reduce the need for volunteers to spend additional hours over and above their regular workload to ‘find’ players in order to field teams,” she said.
Lightning Carnivals for the U8, U9 and U10 teams will take place on 11 August and 18 August.
To wrap up the 2024 season, the highly anticipated Finals Series will take place over three weeks, beginning on the week commencing 19 August.
