2022 SMJFL NATIONAL DRAFT ALUMNI

The South Metro Junior Football League (SMJFL) are proud to have five of former SMJFL players drafted in this year’s NAB AFL National Draft, held earlier this week.


On top of this, the league is extremely proud to have three of the top 10 drafted be SMJFL Alumni.


HARRY SHEEZEL

SMJFL Club: AJAX Junior Football Club

Position: Forward/Midfielder

Drafted: Pick 3 – North Melbourne Football Club

“Harry was blessed with natural talent but his achievement to be drafted, especially as a high pick, more reflects his commitment and dedication, self-belief and temperament to be able to step up at every challenge that he was confronted along the journey”, Jason Wrobel – AJAX JFC Coach. 

SMJFL Club: St. Peters Football Club

Position: Midfielder

Drafted: Pick 4 – North Melbourne Football Club

“After commencing with St Peters FC Auskick program in 2010, George Wardlaw played with St Peters for 10 seasons from 2012 to 2021. In addition to winning the Club Best and Fairest award on six occasions, George was awarded the SMJFL Best and Fairest on three occasions. We are so proud of what George has accomplished so far and look forward to following his AFL journey,” Matthew Baxter – Vice-President, St. Peters Football Club.  

SMJFL Club: Beaumaris Football Club

Position: Defender/Midfielder

Drafted: Pick 7 – Hawthorn Football Club

“The Beaumaris Football Club is again proud to have another of its players selected in the national draft. All the players and families who has been associated with Cam and his family speak only in the highest regard of a fine young man who has worked tirelessly to reap his reward – a top 10 national draft selection. Well done Cam,” Pete Caswell – Committe Member 

SMJFL Club: South Melbourne Districts

Position: Forward

Drafted: Pick 24 – Western Bulldogs

“During his time at South Melbourne Districts JFC, Charlie impressed with his talent and skills around the ground. Even in his junior days, Charlie became known for loving a goal and his celebrations on the field were legendary. 

Charlie had a passion for the game which was contagious, drawing in his team mates to become better players, have fun, and strive for success as a team together,” Justine Sheedy – Social Media Manager

SMJFL Club: Hampton Rovers AFC

Position: Forward/Midfielder

Drafted: Pick 35 – St. Kilda Football Club

“Olli and the Hotton family have been part of the Hampton Rovers Juniors Club since Olli joined Auskick at the age of 7. We are all very excited and proud that Olli has been drafted to the St. Kilda Football Club and we look forward to following his AFL football journey. Olli is an outstanding young man and we wish him all the best as he embarks on his AFL Career,” Rohan Bardwell – Hampton Rovers Juniors President.
