Has a strong passion for and a long association with Australian rules football, particularly junior football. His association with junior football began in 1992 when the eldest of his four sons started at the East Malvern Junior Football Club. His youngest son played U16s in 2010.
He is honoured to be a life member of the EMJFC and over the last 18 years has filled the roles of Secretary, Treasurer, General Committee, Coach, Assistant Coach and Team Manager. In the distant past he enjoyed many years of playing and coaching senior football.
Through his long association with EMJFC, John has experienced and observed the best, and the worst, of the Waverley JFA, the Yarra JFL and of course the MSJFL and will bring these experiences to the table. He has strong views that junior footy is for kids, not parents!
In his working life, John started out as an accountant and is still a CPA. He has been the Executive Managing Director and owner of a number of SMEs and sat on numerous industry committees. Most recently, John sold the business he built up and ran for the last 12 years, an eCommerce retailer, exporter and wholesaler of entertainment media products. John is now establishing a business as a management consultant in the eCommerce and business strategy areas.
John has been a Director of the East Malvern Bendigo Community Bank and always an active volunteer in the school communities and sporting clubs he’s been associated with including EMJFC, Malvern Primary School, Xavier College, Kooyong Little Athletics and East Malvern Cricket Club.
John hopes to bring to this Board a passion for junior football with a desire to achieve increased participation rates, enjoyment for all, and junior to senior pathways within a professional, policy-driven framework. He hopes to use his business acumen and junior sporting experiences to help develop the MSJFL as the pre-eminent junior Australian rules competition in Australia.
